A life, and a love, remembered

Graham Smith with Roseworthy veterinary science students

Nothing can replace the loss of someone dear to us. For Adelaide alumnus Graham Smith, establishing a scholarship for Roseworthy veterinary science students in the name of his late partner, Rosa Samuels, is a fitting way to honour her memory. It reflects Rosa鈥檚 lifelong love of animals, their shared connection with our University, and, most touchingly, their final outing together.

Graham graduated from the 成人大片 in 1975 with a BA (Honours) in Geography and Diploma in Education. He is also a member of the University鈥檚 Hughes Society, having committed to remembering the University in his will. As part of Graham鈥檚 society membership, he is regularly invited to University special events and would always take Rosa. They looked forward to the events and one they both particularly enjoyed was a tour of our Roseworthy campus.

Rosa had always been drawn to animals, and a member of her family had studied at Roseworthy. Both Rosa and Graham were incredibly impressed with what they saw on that tour; and as fate would have it, the tour was the last time they ventured out together.

Graham鈥檚 decision to establish the Rosa Samuels Memorial Scholarship for Roseworthy veterinary science students, not only remembers Rosa and a treasured shared experience, but it also speaks of Graham鈥檚 own deep respect for the value of education and community service.
