Support helps Connor overcome challenges
The gift of education through a scholarship, award or grant for academic excellence can change the lives of outstanding students and inspire them to make a difference in the world.
The University continues to welcome聽a student body of democratic breadth, with 16 per cent of our students coming聽from low socio-economic circumstances.聽We are proud of the various pathway聽programs we have in place to assist聽young people who would otherwise not聽have the opportunity to attend university.
Many of our supporters choose to聽support聽Augustus Short Scholarships,聽which are awarded to bright students聽from all walks of life to pursue a tertiary聽education without the burden of聽financial hardship.
Connor was born with cerebral palsy,聽which makes attending university and working to support himself a challenge.聽Any employment that requires him to stand for long hours is simply not聽manageable. Receiving an Augustus Short Scholarship has been of聽terrific support.
鈥淚 was relieved when I found out I had聽received the scholarship,鈥 says Connor.聽鈥淚 had been stressed about a lack of聽income, and the scholarship was a great聽solution to my problems 鈥 it means I don鈥檛 have to focus on both work and聽study at the same time and I can work聽to the best of my ability in my university聽endeavours.鈥
Issues of financial hardship, relocating聽from rural areas or perhaps a disability聽might have played their role in inhibiting聽bright students from succeeding, but聽with the help of donors like you, we are聽able to support these young leaders of聽tomorrow to achieve their dreams.
