We are incredibly proud to have two Environment Institute members as finalists in these inspiring South Australian awards.

Nomination: STEMM Educator of the Year – University or Registered Training Organisation

Dr is a wildlife veterinarian, conservationist, researcher, academic and senior lecturer at the ³ÉÈË´óƬ.

While working as zoo veterinarian at Auckland Zoo, he developed student training programs and taught students part time at Unitec. Dr Boardman also developed training programs and health systems for endangered species. He spent three years in Uganda building the capacity for the Jane Goodall Institute and the World Bank by training wildlife veterinarians.

He was Head Vet at Zoos South Australia, before joining the School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences at ³ÉÈË´óƬ as Lecturer in Wildlife and Ecosystem Health. In 2014, he was promoted to Senior Lecturer and diplomate of the European College of Zoological Medicine in Wildlife Population Health and a European Registered Veterinary Specialist in Zoological Medicine.

As Senior Lecturer in Wildlife, Biodiversity and Ecosystem Health & Veterinary Biosecurity he is a passionate advocate for evidence based veterinary science, strives to improve student wellbeing and encourages and inspires science students on campus, during wildlife field research in Australia and on wildlife electives in South Africa. In 2019, he received the ³ÉÈË´óƬ Vice-Chancellor’s Outstanding Achievement Award for his commitment to student well-being, education and lifelong learning.

Nomination:ÌýPhD Research Excellence

Dr completed her PhD at the ³ÉÈË´óƬ in 2019 and is dedicated to discovering and describing new species of parasitoid wasps to better document and understand our biodiversity.

Dr Fagan-Jeffries has won multiple awards for her PhD research. A passionate communicator, she holds a Master of Science Communication Outreach and a Graduate Certificate of Museum Studies and gives numerous public lectures and workshops, and currently runs a school-based citizen science project for students to become involved in entomology.

She is now an Australian Biological Resources Study Postdoctoral Fellow at The ³ÉÈË´óƬ, and an emerging leader in the field of invertebrate taxonomy.
