The Environment Institute joined the Adelaide contingent and were surprised at the amount of passionate people wanting to back the science. The school-age听organisers had coordinatored a well-run event at Tarntanyangga听(Victoria Square) with guest speakers and performances before the walk to Parliament House.

On a side note: The crowd was one of the friendliest I'd ever experienced, with people excusing themselves as they moved through the crowd or apologising for stepping on one's foot.

Leading the charge for climate change, the students demands are:

  1. No new coal, oil and gas projects, including the Adani mine.

  2. 100% renewable energy generation & exports by 2030

  3. Fund a just transition & job creation for all fossil-fuel workers & communities.

There is growing unrest at the grass roots level, as we start to see the impact of climate change unfold. These include unprecedented events such as Amazon and Queensland rainforests burning, increase in daily temperatures and more extreme weather patterns. Time will tell what impact these strikes will have on our leaders.
