Research illuminates light adaptation in insects

Perception of light is one of the most important developments in animal history. 听Eyes appeared relatively late on the sensory scene but had immediate impact. A new publication听explores the role of light-environments in the adaptation and development of biological characteristics.

by lead author , this review focuses on insects that have adapted to changes in light environments, including transitions from diurnal activity to nocturnal activity (and the reverse), surface to cave living, and pristine nocturnal habitats to urban environments with artificial light at night.
