COMMGMT 7032 - Strategic and Sustainable Procurement

Procurement concerns with buying goods and services at the right place, for the right price, to the right quantity, and delivered at the right time to allow organisations to operate their supply chains both efficiently and effectively. Strategic and sustainable procurement is core to supply chain management considering a range of issues that procurement professionals must deal with such as make-or-buy decisions, sourcing strategies, supplier selection, strategic sourcing approaches, outsourcing and global sourcing, contracting, supplier integration and development, legal relationships, and negotiation. This course will introduce students to some of these issues across strategic and operational levels of purchasing, procurement, supply management and in light of legal, institutional, and moral sustainability (social and environmental) expectations from businesses.

    This course is offered in the form of full-day interactive workshops. The blended delivery requires students to complete pre-workshop tasks and be prepared to participate in a diverse range of activities aligned with the course learning outcomes.

    Assessment Related Requirements
    • Assignment Submission: Assignments should not be emailed to the instructor; they must be lodged via the MyUni Course site.
    • Cover Sheet: Please include in the assignment a completed 成人大片 Assessment Cover Sheet (found in MyUni, under Modules) providing details of yourself and your team members (if applicable), your assignment, the course, date submitted, etc. as well as the declaration signed by you that this is your (your team’s) work. Note that the declaration on any electronically submitted assignment will be deemed to have the same authority as a signed declaration.
    • Backup Copy of Assignments: You are advised to keep a copy of your assignments in case the submitted copy goes missing. Please ensure that all assignment pages are numbered. If your assignment contains confidential information, you should discuss any concerns with the instructor prior to submission.
    • Assessment extensions request: An application for Assessment Extension should be made before the due date of the assignment to the instructor. Normally, extensions will only be granted for a maximum of two weeks from the original assignment submission date. Extensions will only be granted in cases of genuine medical, compassionate or extenuating circumstances. See sections 3 and 7a) i. in particular on assessment extensions in the Modified Arrangements for Coursework Assessment (MACA) Policy.
    • Failure to submit: Failure to submit an assignment on time or by the agreed extension deadline may result in penalties and may incur a fail grade. Note that a late penalty of 5% of the total available marks for that assessment item will be incurred each day an assignment is handed in late (Unless otherwise stated in 'Assessment Related Requirements' or 'Assessment Detail' above). Assignments handed in after 14 days from the due submission date will fail even if a 100% mark is granted for the work.
    • Resubmission: of an assignment after reworking it to obtain a better mark will not normally be accepted. Approval for resubmission will only be granted on medical or compassionate grounds.
    • Appealing a mark or grade: If you are dissatisfied with your mark or grade, you may request a review or re-mark. There must be academic or procedural reasons for your request, so you can’t simply request a re-mark because you are disappointed with your result.     Assessment Detail
    Essay: Students will work individually and are required to write a 1250-word critical essay. The topic and style of the essay correspond to the latest developments in procurement, and it can focus on a specific issue, case study, or sourcing challenge.

    Report: Students will work in teams and are required to write a 3000-word report. The report will be based on students applying strategic and sustainable procurement theories and models and developing robust category management plans that have the potential to improve social, environmental, and economic performance of businesses and their supply chains.

    Portfolio: Students will be given various opportunities throughout the study period to work on hands-on activities a selection of which will be used to develop their individual portfolios which demonstrate their development progress and competencies in strategic and sustainable procurement (equivalent to 1000 words).

    Engagement: Students will participate in MyUni discussion forums as well as workshop discussions. They will demonstrate leadership and engagement through various opportunities provided inside and outside workshops while interacting with key stakeholders (equivalent to 750 words).
