This course aims to provide a comprehensive and practical understanding of the impacts both positive and negative that mining may have on society and the environment. It also provides an appreciation of management principles and practices vital to a mine manager's successful running of a mining enterprise.

    • Demonstrate knowledge of the legal, political and ethical context of mining in Australia and overseas
    • Describe the principles of sustainable development and apply them in the context of mining practices
    • Identify leading practice in environmental management of mine sites and evaluate their implementation
    • Discuss the major issues associated with social/community impacts of mining and engage in development of management strategies
    • Application of systematic approaches to the conduct and management of engineering projects
    • Identify the key stakeholders in a mining project and their respective needs
    • Demonstrate an awareness of management theory and processes
    • Recognise the factors that motivate people's behaviour in the mine working environment
    • Apply the principal performance measures used in mine management
