Learning Outcomes
Course Learning Outcomes
The Year 6 MBBS course aims to prepare students for their role as interns the following year, and more broadly for their work as doctors, initially in junior positions then continuing the lifelong learning required to work in the medical profession.
There are no formal examinations in Year 6, and the Year 6 course consists of a series of clinical placements. Students undertake clinical duties under supervision, working as part of the multi-disciplinary team. There is a focus on work ethic and professional behaviour. Students are expected to maintain 95% attendance, and any absences require pre-approved leave or a medical certificate.
There are two semesters. The internship semester has three six week placements, specifically designed to enable students to learn to perform intern duties. These are an emergency internship (sometimes combined with ICU or acute medical unit); a medical internship; and a surgical internship. During the internship semester, students attend the Transition to internship program (TTIP). This formal teaching program focusses on the development of practical skills required for internship.
The second semester includes the Dean’s elective, and four selective placements. The Dean’s elective is a 4 week placement organised by individual students which allows them to pursue their specific interests within medicine. Many students travel overseas for the Dean’s elective. The four selective placements are in medicine, surgery, psychiatry and primary care. There is a wide range of selective placements available, working in the community as well as hospital-based medicine. In some cases students can create their own selective placement.
Professional practice development is facilitated through sessions with a “learning coach” throughout the year. The sessions utilise a set of questions each month to provide a framework for discussion and debrief. Additionally, the learning coach may provide practical advice in the use of resources for learning and clinical practice.
Learning Outcomes: By the end of Year 6, and the MBBS Course, students will:
1. Demonstrate professional behaviours including advocacy and leadership in healthcare
2. Evaluate individual and population health status, and where necessary, formulate, implement and monitor management plans in consultation with other health professionals, patients, carers and communities
3. Promote and optimise the health and welfare of individuals and populations
4. Retrieve, critically evaluate, interpret and apply evidence in the performance of health-related activities
5. Deliver safe and effective collaborative healthcareUniversity Graduate Attributes

Learning Resources
Required Resources
Medicine is not localised. Educational and medical practices are both influenced by worldwide trends and research, and you can gain enormous benefit from this cross-fertilisation of knowledge and practice. Most institutions are pleased to be able to offer attachments to students from other institutions or countries and value the opportunity to work with students from different cultures and educational approaches. -
Learning & Teaching Activities
Learning & Teaching Modes
The Dean’s elective provides an opportunity for students to experience healthcare provision in a different setting or to work in a speciality or sub-speciality in which they have a particular interest.Workload
The information below is provided as a guide to assist students in engaging appropriately with the course requirements.
Year 6 students are required to undertake a 4 week Dean’s elective. There is 4 weeks allocated during the selective semester for the Dean’s elective, but students may (with prior approval from the Course Coordinator) arrange to complete the Dean’s elective during the break between Year 5 and Year 6 or during the mid-semester break. The Dean’s elective cannot be undertaken at the end of Year 6 as this time may be needed for remedial placements.Learning Activities Summary

Specific Course Requirements
The aim of the Dean’s elective is to allow you the greatest flexibility in selecting an experience that will meet your particular needs and interests. The Dean’s elective provides an opportunity for you to undertake a clinical placement of your choice in an institution of your choosing. Many students undertake their electives overseas; some take placements in other parts of Australia whilst a few students work in South Australia itself. -

Professional Requirements
All medical students are registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and the Medical Board of Australia. The staff of the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences manage student registration by providing a list of enrolled medical students to the AHPRA. Students do not need to register individually.
Students must adhere to the codes, guidelines and policies of these agencies. Further information about your obligations as registered members of the medical profession can be found on the websites of the registration bodies:
http://www.ahpra.gov.au/Registration/Registration-Standards.aspx
http://www.medicalboard.gov.au/Codes-Guidelines-Policies.aspx
The 成人大片 has developed a Code of Conduct in consultation with the Medical Board of Australia to guide students and clarify expectations of student conduct on a range of issues and in various situations. The Code of Conduct is found in the canvas course associated with this course. In addition, the University has developed a Scope of Practice document which outlines appropriate activites for Year 6 students. Students should be familiar with this document, and adhere to its guidelines. The document can be found in MyUni and .

Student Feedback
The University places a high priority on approaches to learning and teaching that enhance the student experience. Feedback is sought from students in a variety of ways including on-going engagement with staff, the use of online discussion boards and the use of Student Experience of Learning and Teaching (SELT) surveys as well as GOS surveys and Program reviews.
SELTs are an important source of information to inform individual teaching practice, decisions about teaching duties, and course and program curriculum design. They enable the University to assess how effectively its learning environments and teaching practices facilitate student engagement and learning outcomes. Under the current SELT Policy (http://www.adelaide.edu.au/policies/101/) course SELTs are mandated and must be conducted at the conclusion of each term/semester/trimester for every course offering. Feedback on issues raised through course SELT surveys is made available to enrolled students through various resources (e.g. MyUni). In addition aggregated course SELT data is available.
