Course Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this course students will be able to:
1 Describe and explain static electric and magnetic fields 2 Classify the properties of conductors, dielectrics and magnetic materials 3 Explain Electromagnetic induction and relate it to applications 4 Calculate capacitance and self-inductance of different structures 5 Interpret Maxwell’s equations of electromagnetics in integral and differential forms 6 Employ vector calculus to solve static, quasistatic and dynamic electromagnetics
problems7 Formulate electromagnetic waves to interpret reflection and refraction 8 Discuss theoretical principles or radiation with simple antennas structures 9 Practise numerical electromagnetic simulations and antenna measurements 10 Identify electromagnetic phenomena relevant to real-life applications

This course has a hurdle requirement. Meeting the specified hurdle criteria is a requirement for passing the course.
Due to the current COVID-19 situation modified arrangements have been made to assessments to facilitate remote learning and teaching. Assessment details provided here reflect recent updates.
The overall structure of course assessment is only subjected to minor changes:
Online Test 1: 10%
Online Test 2: 10%
Guest lecture summary (short essay): 10%
Practicals: 20%
Examination: 50%
However, the following modifications have been put in place:
Tests (20%)
As announced previously, the in-class tests are cancelled. They will be replaced by 2 online-tests in Week 7 (Friday) and Week 10 (Tuesday).
Test 1: Basic concepts and electrostatics (Sections 2-5)
Test 2: Magnetostatics and Induction (Sections 6-9)
Details about tests will be provided in due time.
Guest Lecture (10%)
The guest lecture will go as planned in Week 12, but will be delivered online.
The attendance marks will be replaced by marks on a summary due after
the guest lecture in Week 12. Details will be provided at a later date.
Practicals (20%)
The marking structure of the practicals remains unchanged, but all practicals will be implemented online.
The deadline for the pracs reports is advanced to Week 12, Monday 11 June 2020, 3 pm.
Viva voce for the computing prac will happen in Week 12.
