ARTS 3301 - Social Enterprise Internship III

This course is designed to involve students in 'The Big Idea' which draws on The Big Issue's expertise and networks to immerse students in the world of social enterprise. This course enables students to further develop and apply, career and leadership-ready skills in the design of a concept and business plan for a new social enterprise or social business. Students are encouraged to develop their own social enterprise idea, and they will also have an opportunity to undertake an internship up to one day per week in a real social enterprise setting in Adelaide. This internship combines lectures and weekly online seminars facilitated by The Big Idea and Australian business leaders representing corporate, government and community sectors; and gives students an opportunity to develop a wide range of career and leadership-ready skills including business planning, social enterprise in practice, team-work and communication skills; and soft skills such as ethical competency and self-awareness. The number of participating students will be determined by an internal quota and the assessment of a formal application which takes into consideration overall academic merit and demonstrated relevant skills required for the internship. Applications will be called during May-June. Successful applicants will be advised of a place in the internship program by late June.

    1 Develop through group work a concept and business plan for a new social enterprise, demonstrating a degree of professional expertise commensurate with an intensive period of practical hands-on experience.

    Learning & Teaching Modes
    This program is being run by Big Ideas. Currently 10 Australian Universities participate in this program, including 5 GO8s. The teaching and learning modes are run by Big Ideas with Academic supervision being provided by the Faculty of Arts. The seminars are delivered by representatives from key business, government and community organisations in facilitating and guiding each team in the conceptualisation and development of a business plan.
