Learning & Teaching Activities
Learning & Teaching Modes
Classes will meet three times a week: twice for a 1-hour lecture on Mondays 11am-12pm and
Thursdays 11am-12pm at The Braggs, G76 Bragg Lecture Theatre, and once for a 2-hour tutorial depending on the time slot students sign up for.
Office hours will be held by the lecturer on Monday 12-1pm or by appointment only. Office hours with tutors will be announced in due course. Please adhere strictly to the designated office hours.Workload
The information below is provided as a guide to assist students in engaging appropriately with the course requirements.
The standard undergraduate workload for a full-time student is 48 hours per week which equates to 12 hours per 3 unit course. This course has four hours of lectures and tutorials each week, which
means that students should undertake eight hours of self-study each week of the
teaching term.
Weekly homework assignments are issued each week. The assignments are graded and students may be asked to present their solutions during tutorial sessions.Learning Activities Summary

Homework completion may require access to STATA. If you do not have STATA at home, you may use the computer labs on campus. Please refer to for further details.

Assessment Summary
Students will be assessed based on the following:
Homework assignments and class participation: 15% 2 Mid-term tests: 30% (15% each) Final examination: 55%
Unless informed otherwise, the 2 mid-term tests will be scheduled for Week 8 (Monday, 15 September 2014 and Thursday 18 September 2014) during the 11am-12pm lectures. Unless instructed otherwise, students are permitted to bring in an A4 size cheat sheet with both sides written for the mid-term test and final exam.Assessment Related Requirements
Attendance in class and tutorials is required.Assessment Detail
The homework assignments will be posted one week prior to the due date. Students are expected to submit every homework assignment. Each week, the tutors may ask a group of students to present their solutions as part of class participation. Note that a supplementary test or examination will not be
given to replace the missed homework assignments. Unless there are valid reasons and proper documentation, a missed test or examination will be graded 0. Please refer to the Modified Arrangements for Coursework Assessment Policy (and the Schedule to the Policy) for further details about eligibility and application forms.Submission
