Commercialising Alumina Refining Using Solar Heat
Approximately 27% of Australia’s industrial carbon emissions come from alumina refineries, which burn fossil fuels to heat the process. However, concentrated solar thermal energy could provide up to half of the heat required.

Researchers at the ³ÉÈË´óƬ's Centre for Energy Technology have developed a Solar Hybrid Receiver Combustor (HSRC) that can be used around the clock by industry, due to its ability to use a mix of heat sources; solar radiation from a heliostat field and combustion of renewable fuels.
