Considering cryogenic carbon capture
Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) will play a pivotal role in achieving the 鈥渘et-zero鈥 emissions goal of the sustainable energy future. 听In 2020, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia hosted the G20 summit, highlighting the growing need for a Circular Carbon Economy approach, which calls for a fundamental shift from the traditional practice of single use with disposal to the atmosphere of carbon in the fuel sources.
Prof William Roberts, Director of the Clean Combustion Research Center, at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) will present 鈥楻ecent Development in Cryogenic Carbon Capture in Saudi Arabia鈥, at the third international forum on high temperature minerals processing (HiTeMP-3), which is being held at the National Wine Centre, Adelaide and online from Sept 26-28, 2022.
Prof Roberts was an early member of the Clean Combustion Research Center, and became its Director in 2014. Since then, the Center has grown to be one of the largest and most productive combustion groups in the world.
鈥淎t KAUST, we are developing carbon capture technologies for point source capture, called Cryogenic Carbon Capture to overcome traditional carbon capture challenges in cost and energy efficiency鈥, he says.
Cost effective carbon capture from point sources requires rapid scaling to meet global climate goals. Prof Roberts will discuss the technical and life cycle assessment challenges of the cryogenic process.
