Celebrating our research impact

The impact of world-class research being conducted by the 成人大片 will be celebrated during the University's inaugural Research Week starting this month (28 October-4 November).

A series of public events throughout Research Week will place the spotlight firmly on the University's research and the impact it has on the lives of people locally, nationally and around the world.

"Research Week gives the community an opportunity to better understand the breadth and depth of our research. This is outstanding work that is being conducted right here at our University but which has tangible benefits for millions of people the world over," said the Deputy Vice‑Chancellor (Research), Professor Mike Brooks.

"Ever since the 成人大片 was established in 1874, we have been among the nation's leading research-intensive universities. Today, our research effort is stronger and more relevant to society than ever before.

"Much of our work is directed at some of the global challenges we face. These include improved human health, food security, a sustainable environment, and renewable energy, amongst other fields of research that benefit society.

"Our strong research base also underpins our teaching, so that we offer distinctive and high-quality education programs informed by the latest thinking."

Some of the public Research Week events include:

  • Vehicle Testing Laboratory Tour: run by the Centre for Automotive Safety Research at Kent Town;

  • Moving Men's Health Forward: presentations by the Centre for Men's Health to raise awareness of male obesity and infertility, mental health and prostate cancer;

  • Wind Noise: a panel presentation by the Institute for Mineral and Energy Resources on the impact of wind farms on the community;
    Meet The Researchers: leading experts will each present their current research in under three minutes;

  • Care In Africa: a panel discussion by the Joanna Briggs Institute about local research that is benefitting healthcare in Africa;

  • Debate @ The Waite: following the highly successful inaugural debate in August, this event will again deal with key issues in燼griculture and agricultural science;

  • Tackling Melanoma: a public lecture discussing the latest breakthroughs in drugs to control the spread of melanoma;
    Through the Looking Glass: Changing Emotions: a series of interactive workshops and exhibitions investigating emotions in the Arts.
